Life Update: Where I’ve Been & Where The Sweetly Co. Is Going

So, it’s been a while…to say the least. 2020 came roaring in with a lot of unexpected events – and I’m not just talking about everything we’ve been seeing on the news. This has been an incredible year of major change for me and I honestly just had to take a few months off from writing to get adjusted to it all. But, I always intended to come back, fill you in on what’s been happening, and then continue to push forward with this little venture.

Why Did I Take A Step Back?

Why exactly did I take a step back from writing? Well, there are a few reasons but none of them involve needing a break from this platform. In fact, I have missed it dearly. Over the past few years it has become such a huge part of my life that I almost didn’t feel like myself when I wasn’t writing and creating content for you. It’s so good to be back at my computer screen and typing words on this blog.

My simplest explanation is that my life has taken a few surprising, though very exciting, turns in the past six months. And I want to tell you all about them! Most of it was completely unplanned and when I start to explain you will see exactly why I had to take a step back for a little while.

Major Change #1

Toward the end of last year I was presented with an exciting and very unexpected opportunity. This was something I never imagined doing but it turns out it’s something I very much enjoy – funny how God always knows our hearts better than we do!

Since January, I have been working in Christian radio for a local station in my area. And it’s been an absolute joy! I never imagined I would get the opportunity to encourage other believers and share the gospel over the airwaves of a radio. I always thought my ministry was only in writing. But I now see that what I always perceived as a love of writing was actually a love of communication. Ask anyone in my circle – ya girl loves to talk! So, getting to spend a few hours a week writing a show and then talking to listeners has been a dream come true…even if it was a dream I didn’t realize I had.

So, take it from me – you may be deeply surprised by the ways in which God chooses to use you in ministry. I’m so thankful for how He leads. I’m also deeply grateful that someone else was able to see me in this line of work before I ever could see myself there.

My time in the studio each week is actually very manageable with my current schedule and I was continuing to create content here for the first few weeks of the year…until I received some surprising news in February.

Major Change #2

Just as I was settling in to this new part-time position as an on-air personality I started to notice something sort of odd…

I was utterly exhausted. And after I spent an entire weekend napping and lounging on the sofa it finally hit me why…

That’s right. On the following Monday afternoon I found myself staring down at a positive pregnancy test!!!

I remember feeling this strange combination of total shock (because this was not part of our plan for at least another year) and a familiar wave of peace (much like the feeling I got the first time I saw David). Though it was the biggest surprise of my entire life…it felt so right. So perfect. I spent the afternoon crying and laughing and pacing around the house. The hours until David got home and I could tell him the news were the longest of my entire life! But the joy of getting to tell him that he was going to be a dad was well worth the wait.

I’m excited to finally share the news with you — David and I will be welcoming a Baby Girl this October!

THAT is the biggest reason I took a step back from content creation for a little while. The first trimester left me constantly exhausted – though I’m very thankful that the morning sickness was never a huge issue. But, I had just enough energy each day to get in the studio, tidy up the house a little bit, and settle in for a long nap. The second trimester has been full of much more energy, thankfully, but with tons of things on my list to get ready for baby’s arrival this fall. We have been in full nursery mode these days and I’ve been lost in Baby Girl land with all the pretty little outfits and whatnot. I also felt like I needed to take some time and evaluate how I wanted the future of this platform to look since my life will be changing so much later this year. And that is exactly what I did – I’ll get to that part later.

Major Change #3

In the midst of a slight career shift (if you didn’t know, I spent much of last year running my own Interior Design business on the side and laid that down in order to step into radio) and finding out that I was pregnant, I also started training at my local Pregnancy Center to become a Volunteer Counselor for women facing unexpected pregnancies. Ironic, I know.

My heart has always ached for the lives of unborn babies and the well being of their mothers. I started out as just a simple volunteer at the center – hoping to just give my time to a cause that means so much to me. But, I was quickly approached by the director to consider becoming a counselor. Though I was absolutely terrified at the thought, God was pretty clear that He wanted me to start the training. That has taken up a bit of my time as well – usually one day a week and some additional hours spent studying. I’ll be finishing up the training soon, will move into some observation hours, and hopefully start working with clients next year – after I’ve gotten settled with my own little one.

So, that’s where I’ve been. Adjusting to life as not only a writer but now an on-air radio show host, training to counsel women who find themselves in a crisis, and growing a beautiful baby girl and watching my body change almost daily. It’s been a crazy season and it has flown by, but it’s been a season of blessings and I could not be more grateful for every single second of it. But, what does all this mean for THIS ministry that I’ve been building to serve YOU in the past few years?

What Does The Future Look Like For The Sweetly Co.?

Well, honestly, not much is changing. Of course, I’ll be planning ahead for some maternity leave — this way you will still get consistent content even when I’m not sitting in front of my keyboard. I’ll likely take the last three months of the year off from writing. But, rest assured, The Sweetly Co. isn’t going anywhere! I plan to spend the rest of this summer writing and creating content, developing new products to launch in The Sweetly Shop, and showing up here for you. Basically, I have every intention of continuing to grow this brand. This was a passion project and a ministry from the very beginning and it’s truly something I love showing up for. God has been so faithful in blessing this little platform and I cannot see myself walking away from all of the messages I receive for readers. I might have some other titles next to my name these days — but that doesn’t mean that I’m going anywhere. I’m still the friend that wants to equip you with truth and resources to pursue a joyful and passionate life. So stay tuned, because there is so much to look forward to!

Thank you so much, friend, for sticking with me this far and for being so patient these past six months as I have learned to navigate all of these unexpected blessings. I can’t wait to see where God leads next.
