Okay, let's talk comparison. I have two pretty unpopular opinions about this and they are a little contradicting so buckle up for this one. . We hear a LOT about comparison in the Instagram world. About how we shouldn't compare ourselves to others and how it's the thief of joy. We all know this. But lately I've been thinking about it in 2 new ways . 1.) the way social media tells us not to compare ourselves isnt exactly lined up with God's word (shocker). We shouldn't refrain from comparing our homes, our hair, and our careers because it makes us feel bad. We should refrain because it is a form of covetousness. Looking at your own life and comparing it to someone else's can easily turn into downright jealousy and we all know that is not something God calls us to pursue. . 2.) Healthy comparison, without envy and covetousness, usually leads to excellence. If it bothers you that your best friend can afford nice clothes and you can't because you're paying off student loan debt with every extra penny (you are so not alone on that one!) then let that motivate you to start a side hustle or finally get the courage to work toward a promotion. If what is in your mind and heart stems from a place of wanting better for yourself rather than wanting exactly what someone else has, then you're golden. But, if you find yourself always neglecting to take responsibility for what you lack...you might need a heart check. If you use the phrase "must be nice" (🙋‍♀️ again, not alone) every time someone you know goes on vacay or remodels their kitchen, you might want to start pursuing freedom from covetousness. Comparison steals joy. When that comparison turns into envy it can steal your closeness to the Lord. When it is consciously turned into purpose and ambition...it might just give you everything you always wanted. . What are thoughts in comparison? . #thesweetlyco Not even on my best day can I overcome my own need of grace. . We all need it, friend. Every single second of every day. We cannot reach a point in this lifetime that will stop being true. There is so much info out there about leveling up and becoming better versions of ourselves and achieving goals. And that's all fine and well. But, I think that we sometimes confuse our need of grace with the idea of self-help and self-improvement. So, in case you've been reading all the books that teach you how to be the best wife, mom, business owner, or influencer and you still can't seem to wrap your mind around it all, remember this: you cannot outrun your need of grace and your need of Jesus. And I'm right there with you, girl. . But, if we can live with the wonder of grace before us...oh, man. Imagine how we might approach our relationships and our pursuits if we never allow ourselves to forget what a miracle grace really is. . #thesweetlyco For the girl that is staying stuck in one place because at one time it was her dream: . I get it. That major was what dreamed of in high school. That job is what you dreamed of in college. That city was the place you dreamed of living. . Look, sometimes what we once dreamt of turns out not to be what we thought. And that is really hard to admit. I used to dream of stilettos and fancy design firms. I used to dream of climbing the ladder and hustling my butt off to get ahead in an industry I truly loved. . But, then...I found a new dream. And that's okay! Girl, just because you dreamt of living in a big city but find yourself now dreaming for the small town you know so well, that doesn't mean you are giving up. If just means your dreams are changing. Embrace it! . What I'm saying here is that under no circumstance should you stick with a major, a job, or even a boyfriend just because it was dream some time ago. Your dreams can grow as you do, friend. . #thesweetlyco Murder mystery. Gourmet fudge. A couple's time capsule. I know I say it every single time, but this month's @datenightinbox was my favorite! . I cannot stress enough how important it is to prioritize regular date nights. Especially when you're married. David & I always have so much fun with these boxes and we anxiously anticipate the next one arriving each month. . Of all the subscription boxes out there, we choose the one that nourishes our relationship. And for less than the cost of a dinner out at our fave restaurant. . I think hard work and excellence are important things. If not for success but for development of character and gratitude. I've always been achievement oriented and it's proven to be a good thing...mostly. And I believe that if you really want something it will require hard work...or hustle if you will. . BUT... . It will also require grace. Not grace from others or yourself necessarily (though that doesn't hurt), but grace from the One who knit this whole idea into your heart. Because you are going to mess up. Take wrong turns. Have days where you just don't do a single productive thing. Days when you wonder why on earth you wanted this whole thing in the first place. And on those days you will need abundant grace. And with that grace you will have days of seeing how it all fits together. Days of realizing you were right all along. Days of celebrating everything you hustled for. . So, if you're refusing to move forward out of fear of failure... Honey, you will never move. I heard something today that applies so well to this: "failure is not fatal. But hesitation can be." . So, prepare yourself for hustle. But prepare your heart for abundant grace as well. Because with out it...well is any of this really worth it anyway? And if you're waiting because you dont want to fail then take hold of that grace with both hands and leap. . Listen up ladies, this is important. In fact, your response to this will change your life. It will direct so much of your future. . Choose the guy that knows what it means to love like Christ. . Choose the guy that loves you beyond your pretty eyes or your charming smile. . Choose the guy that dreams with you and holds you up when fear of failure tries to push you down. . Choose the guy that chooses kindness and understanding. Choose the guy that would never fathom the idea of causing you any sort of pain, emotional or otherwise. . Take it from someone who came so close to choosing the wrong one. I'm a walking example of grace if ever there was one. The very thought of where and who I would be without the kind heart that beats inside of my husband is enough to make me full of fear at what might have been. . Don't let impatience push you into something never meant for you. Don't excuse jealousy or manipulation out of fear of never finding someone else. Wait for and fight for the hope of someone who knows just how precious you are. Because you are. And the guy that would treat you as such deserves the joy of loving you for his whole life. . . .
